Award citation:
“The BEST Hub, designed by ARM Architecture for Blacktown City Council, impressed the judges with its integrated landscape, exterior and interior design and functionality. This community-based health, learning and accommodation precinct serves the specific health needs of Western Sydney’s multicultural community. The design, delivery, and execution of the building and its surrounds exhibit exceptional quality and detail, providing a marvelous experience for all users. Commercially viable, this health precinct is supported by education and learning through the Australian Catholic University, function rooms, cafe and onsite accommodation. The judges appreciated the thought and effort that went into the design, undertaking a worldwide search for an experienced sports professional to guide the design brief and develop the highly efficient and functional design. The BEST Hub caters to all sports-related health conditions, from low to high-end athletes, and this element the judges found highly beneficial. The exterior and interior design is architecturally brave, a landmark project, and a unique testament to a Council willing to set the bar high to achieve excellence on all levels.
The judges decided this development deserved high scored across all judging categories and should be recognized as an example of excellence in non-residential design.”
