Transplanting the Sydney College of the Arts

We’re relocating the Sydney College of the Arts from its current Rozelle home to the University of Sydney’s heritage Old Teachers’ College building.

The task isn’t just transplanting facilities, it’s tailoring a new home for a distinctive, thriving culture.

We are repurposing the interiors for specific visual art forms including sculpture, print media, screen arts, photomedia, jewellery making, ceramics and painting.

The only external intervention is the hot workshop for glassworks. It is surrounded by a highly visible screen, which people can look through from outside. The screen features an image of a body lying down, subtly visible as you move around it.

The Sydney College of the Arts relocation will be completed in time for Semester 1 2020.
