Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex: Construction to soon kick off

Located in one of Geelong’s fastest-growing residential areas, the Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex is a major new hub for sport, recreation and community life in the region. Designed by ARM, the facility will support local participation across a wide range of indoor activities with spaces tailored for flexibility, inclusion and high performance.

Originally earmarked as part of Victoria’s preparations for the now-cancelled 2026 Commonwealth Games, the project is one of five in the Geelong and Surf Coast regions to proceed under the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Package.

The facility will include six indoor multi-sport courts with retractable seating, a regional-level gymnastics centre, a dance hall and studio, community rooms, and car parking with EV charging. Our design balances functionality with a strong sense of place, creating a welcoming, high-quality venue for a growing and diverse population.

A co-design process with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners is currently shaping key cultural and place-specific elements of the project, including internal artworks, the building’s identity, and a façade design that celebrates a theme of local timbers. The name ‘WPSC’ shown in current renders is a placeholder only, with the final name to be determined in collaboration with community.

Community feedback on the design is open until Thursday 24 April via the Engage Victoria website.

Construction is expected to commence in the second half of 2025.
