ARM appointed to Geelong Arts Centre redevelopment

ARM is delighted to have won a major role in the Geelong Arts Centre redevelopment.

We’ve been appointed to design the project’s next stage, known as the Little Malop Street Redevelopment, which includes a 500-seat drama theatre, a courtyard theatre, an outdoor community space and food/beverage options.

There will also be upgrades to the box office, backstage areas and administration facilities. Outside, the surrounding streetscape will be improved.

The site is right opposite our much-loved Geelong Library and Heritage Centre.

The $128 M Little Malop Street Redevelopment is the project’s largest phase. It realises a major component of the 2017 Victorian Government-commissioned Central Geelong Arts and Cultural Precinct Masterplan. It’s scheduled for completion in 2023.

“We’re revitalising Geelong’s arts and culture precinct and GAC’s redevelopment is a key part of that, creating hundreds of jobs and providing a world-class venue.”

Martin Foley, Minister for Creative Industries

We will be working with consultants including service engineers Umow Lai, structural and civil engineers Bonacci Group, theatre consultants Charcoalblue and acousticians Hanson Associates.

Development Victoria is partnering with Creative Victoria and Geelong Arts Centre to deliver the redevelopment.

Performing arts projects are a huge passion for ARM. We are currently working at the Sydney Opera House and Aotea Studios Auckland. We also designed the award-winning Melbourne Recital Centre and MTC Southbank Theatre, and redeveloped Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.
