HOTA Gallery opens!

Our HOTA Gallery opened its doors on Saturday 8 May in a colourful outdoorsy balmy Gold Coast launch.

The 5,600m² Gallery is Australia’s largest public one outside a capital city and has AAA-Grade exhibition spaces for local and international exhibitions.

Brisbane artist Michael Zavros curated the AV show projected onto the façade.

We’ve made the building an architectural beacon for the Gold Coast: celebratory and contemporary on the outside and, on the inside, a sanctuary for art.

“The outside of the building is colourful, it’s bright, it’s brash, it’s full of bravado like the Gold Coast itself. Then you come inside and it’s sophisticated, it’s smart, it’s thoughtful and full of light and shade—like the Gold Coast.”

—HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke

It’s the third realised element of ARM’s HOTA masterplan, after our Outdoor Stage (2017) and Green Bridge (2020).

“To have a project of this complexity constructed on budget and on time, and through the chaos of a COVID year, is absolutely exceptional.”

—HOTA Board Chair Ned Pankhurst

The inaugural major exhibition, SOLID GOLD: Artists from Paradise (8 May – 4 July 2021) celebrates works from 19 artists and collectives, each connected to the Gold Coast. The inaugural exhibition in the Children’s Gallery is World Upside Down (8 May – 10 October 2021).

Admission is free but bookings are essential. https://hota.com.au/

William Robinson’s 1990 two-panel landscape The Rainforest (right) is a signature acquisition for HOTA. It also inspired our designs.

(L to R) HOTA Board Chair Ned Pankhurst, Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Donna Gates and Mayor Tom Tate cut the ribbon.

Huge congratulations to our client, the City of Gold Coast, and to HOTA.
