Steve Ashton Address 2019: Dawn Casey in Conversation with Howard Raggatt

We would like to invite you to this year’s Steve Ashton Address – Dawn Casey in Conversation with Howard Raggatt: Culture Wars and the National Museum of Australia. It will be held at RMIT Storey Hall on 6.30pm Tuesday October 22.

Dawn grew up in Cairns, she dropped out of school at 16 and worked for a newsagent and did housework until she saved enough to pay the first term’s fees at a business college. In 1974, the Australian Government began to subsidise Aboriginal education and she took a job with the Department of Education and resumed study. Thus began a long career in various roles in the Commonwealth public service which then led to her being general manager of the Construction Task Force for the NMA.

Dawn was appointed Director of the National Musum of Australia in 2000. She worked with Howard to conceive and deliver the Museum, Australia’s first national social history museum. It’s also one of ARM’s most inventive, daring and controversial buildings. She is currently Chief Operating Officer for the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
