Local is one of several high-density multi-residential buildings that surround a new public park in Melbourne’s inner-city Carlton. All apartments have generous balconies overlooking Canning Street and the park’s tree-clad contours.
Local is located between Nicholson, Elgin Streets and Canning Streets in the heart of historic Carlton. We have designed every apartment to make it genuinely and easily adaptable for residents with disabilities.
Local’s façade features dark bluestone-coloured concrete panels studded with small gold-coloured squares. It has a jewel-like mosaic quality and a bold form. The geometric pattern of gold squares with horizontal and vertical silver ones reminds you of the vivid coursing patterns made by large basalt blocks and mortar joints.
There is a rooftop terrace. Gold-clad recessed windows and pop-out balconies create texture and interest in the building’s shape. They also provide sun shading in the living areas.
The apartment layouts have one, two or three bedrooms.
The Living Carlton Consortium incorporates Australand, St Hilliers/Hacer and the Citta Property Group, in conjunction with the State Government of Victoria Office of Housing.
